International Women's Day - Be Bold For Change

Observed on 08 March annually, International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrates womanhood, and the progress of women being recognised for their significant contributions and achievements in terms of political, cultural, economic and social.

At the same time, IWD 2017 brings awareness of the importance of gender parity, of women being able to play a pivotal part in shaping the society and economies, to execute the equal freedom and rights that in some cases - Only men have access to. Afterall, like what the previous First Lady Michelle Obama (whom I admired a lot) mentioned, "There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish”.

As much as there is a call for gender equality in the current society, there is no denial that there is certainly vast improvements of women’s rights and freedom as compared to the early 1900s. Fast forward to the current age, more women have gotten the rights to vote and experiencing less job discrimination over the past century. But more is to done – To empower women and bring forth hope to the misrepresented. 

This year’s IWD theme is “Be Bold For Change”, to establish equal freedom and rights to women, like what men got to have all along, especially in workplaces. With the changing world of work where there are more women in the workforce than before, there is much to do to reduce this  imparity and injustice faced by women at their workplace – Such as gender pay gap, job opportunities, suggestions not taken seriously, etc. (#beboldforchange)

One example is the recent case by Susan Fowler, a female engineer who worked in Uber – She, along with other female engineer colleagues as claimed by her, faced workplace sexual harassment and sexism. Most left on their own accord, but it means a loss of talent in the company, in the industry or even for the better good of the society. I should not but cannot help to assume that there are many similar situations happening in other companies around the world.

Another example is Yours Truly. As a Sales Account Manager working in an industry that is of (1) male-dominated and (2) engineering field, it was challenging but fulfilling to prove that I, who may be in dresses and high heels, can do as well, or even better, than the male counterparts. There may be some apprehensions by new customers but to gain their trust and business was rewarding. Or that when I tell people I meet for the first time that I am doing sales, they would ask me, in the beauty industry? In a bank? Was it sexism that I encountered? :-/

Some companies are known for their gender diversity practices, while it was reported that more than 85% of FAs on Wall Street are men and 25% of listed companies on Russell 3,000 Index have no female board of directors. Despite that, it is certainly interesting to know that it is the companies that are more gender-balanced which perform better.

Other than equality in workplaces, I feel that there is more to advocate on and empower women with - Such as healthcare, education and a safe place free of domestic violence. Education is denied for females in some families, communities, but with it, this can change the course of a woman's life, and eventually the society.

A study showed that in US, women account for a majority of college graduates and Fortune 500 entry-level employees but this proportion declines at each executive career stage. Other than due to the possibility of gender imbalance, it may just because some women chose to take a back seat in their career, giving up what they could achieve at work to care for their families. And these stay-at-home-mums are those to be admired.

Over in US, many ladies are participating in “A Day Without A Woman” by taking a day off from work or home roles, avoid shopping (except to small, women- and minority-owned businesses) and wear red (to signify love and sacrifice). As much as it is to highlight that women's presence is not to be taken for granted and how women contributes to the socio-economic system, this strike will affect many businesses and individuals on this day, in my opinion. Is it necessary to be part of the strike? Imagine schools have to be closed as female teachers go on strike. The ones being affected are the schoolchildren! Voicing out for gender parity and to highlight women receiving lower wages, discrimination vulnerabilities, sexual harassment and job security need not go to such an extent.

With that, everyone has a part to play in enabling a change to society's mindset and business practices when it comes to women. But as mentioned by Malala Yousafzai, "We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back" (in recognising the importance of equality and full humanity of women and men). Before I end, wishing all ladies a Happy International Women's Day. May we find love and acceptance in who we are and strength in all the things we do! 

Chap Goh Meh - Chinese Valentine's Day (元宵节)

Valentine's Day may be three days away,  but today is a day for couples to celebrate their love, for it is "Yuen Xiao" (元宵). This is the Chinese version of Valentine's Day, also known as "Chap Goh Meh" in Hokkien.


"Chap Goh Meh" marks the fifteenth night of the whole Chinese New Year period. The "Yuen Xiao" festival is also known as 'Lantern Festival'. Homes will be decorated with brightly-lit red lanterns, and people carrying lanterns on the streets, soaking in the festivity.


Most families would gather to eat together on this final day of the whole celebratory period, while the town celebrates this occasion with fireworks and firecrackers (not in Singapore, but in Malaysia at least), lanterns, lion dances and of course the Chingay procession.The Singapore Chingay will be live-streamed with repeated telecasts. For myself, I spent the afternoon with my loved one, and will be having a dinner feast with the final lou hei (yusheng) for this Lunar New Year period. I will probably end the night with a karaoke session.

Although it is not a tradition in Singapore... In some other Asian countries, on this "Yuan Xiao" day, mandarin oranges are thrown into the sea by single ladies, believing that they will find a good husband by doing so. Also, it was believed that their future spouse will be the man who picks up the orange. Since the oranges are thrown by unmarried ladies, ladies these day in this current modern era may toss oranges into the sea but not before writing their phone number or email address, or may I add Instagram handle. :p

Nowadays, it is not just just the man doing the chasing. Ladies do that too. So guess what some guys do? They toss bananas into the sea, with messages or their phone numbers written on them. Hence, that's why this day is known as the "Chinese Valentine's Day"... cos of how it is related to the concept of love. Oh, and there's another day in the Lunar calendar which is considered as the Chinese Valentine's Day too - The 7th day of the 7th lunar month... It is the Qi Xi festival (七夕节) that celebrates the annual meeting of the cowherd and weaver girl in Chinese mythology.

But anyway, my opinion is that love is not to be expressed only on Valentine's Day... It should be expressed every day. It does not have to proven with a hefty price tag, but love can be shown in many sweet and simple ways. I feel that...

Britain's 23 June Referendum - To Stay or Leave the European Union?

Unlike Greece's mulish desire to stay in the European Union (EU), Britain has, over the years, expressed utmost desire to leave the EU. The former would probably have a GREXIT (Greece Exit) if not for the last bailout by the EU. Whereas for Britain, the withdrawal from the EU was decided by tens of millions of British voters in this divisive referendum that will shape the ties between Britain and EU - To remain in the EU or to leave the EU and regain UK sovereignty? What will be the decision that Britons make after years of bitter talk?

Mirrored after GREXIT, it is known as BREXIT (British Exit), and the stakes were high. While the votes were constantly updated, most of it leaned towards leaving the EU. Below is the final result of this referendum - BRITAIN IS LEAVING THE EUROPEAN UNION AFTER 43 YEARS, with a 51.9% of voters polled 'YES' for the withdrawal. United Kingdom is the FIRST country to leave the EU bloc.

Push Factors for Britain to Leave EU

The top three debate topics for leaving EU commonly fell back on the reason of UK's sovereignty loss to the EU, the EU's burdensome economic regulations, and the EU's liberal rules for internal migration. The EU consists of 28 members states, and one of the laws rules that members have to admit unlimited numbers of migrant from the other EU countries.

When I was living in London, I came across frequent newspapers articles on the immigration issues. Most were not thrilled about the Syrian refugee crisis, though UK ranks 13^th out of 28 countries in terms of failing to resettle the number of people it has promised to take in. With the heightened fear of terrorism (Paris, Brussels, etc), most Britons disagree with the EU's free-migration rules as they believed it may allow more terrorists to enter into United Kingdom easier. But all these years, UK could not do anything about this, or even other issues, as EU laws override all national laws. Other reasons for Britain to leave EU can be read in [THIS ARTICLE].

Brexit's Effect on the Currency and Capital Markets

Widely discussed and warned by governments, capital analysts and investors across the globe, the referendum if passed, will affect global financial markets and roil the currency, commodity and capital markets, and many other sectors such as import/export, property, automotive, medical and travel. It was said that if Brexit happens, the British economy may shrink by between 3.8 and 7.5 percent by 2030 — depending on how well subsequent negotiations for access to the European market ultimately went.


London may lose its attractiveness as a financial hub, that many international banks and financial institutions are currently based at. The Square Mile and Canary Wharf are the two central financial districts (CBD) in London. Banks may move their operations out of UK, as voiced out by Morgan Stanley president, Colm Kellleher on his bank's probable decision. Hence, it was not surprising that Londoners voted to remain in the EU (Check out this article too to check out how UK has voted in terms of area).

Stirling Pound Plummeted To a 30-year Low

Since the start of the campaign in February this year, the pound has been fluctuating vigorously (Yes, I have been tracking this as I have vested interests in the Stirling Pound). But even without the conclusion of the votes, the visceral effect of the Stirling Pound have was observed as the British currency have plummeted to a 30-year low against the US Dollars. Many have been holding on their cash to buy on the dip. Where in UK itself, the Britons were scrambling to exchange their pounds to other currencies in view of the busy Summer vacation period of June to August.


Asia Markets In Red
While typing this article, I was concurrently watching the Bloomberg live telecast and discussion online. The telecast showed the global stock markets performance, and it was alarming to see the sea of red across the markets. In Asia markets, traders started their day in the wee hours of the morning as the most of the international markets were experiencing tumbling effects as the voting result kept updating, with panic sweeping across the financial markets.

Effect of Brexit on Japan Market

Japanese Yen has gone up, much to the probable dismay of those intending to visit Japan for vacations. Business-wise, companies that rely heavily on Japan imports like parallel imported Japanese cars will be affected. The Japanese government sees the demand for the safe-haven yen as a crisis as it would hurt Japan's exports, and they have been attempting to keep the yen low to stimulate economic growth and boost inflation. On another note, NIKKEI, the Japan stock market, is suffering the worst day in five years.

Gold Price Rises

To investors, gold seems to be the best bet in the long run. Gold prices surged to a two-year high. While pound being dumped rapidly, the glittering attractiveness of this commodity increased. This is, despite the fact that there is no real pattern to spot gold price changes following major shock events, as analysed in the Bloomberg chart as seen below.

FREXIT 

Following the Brexit, this may cause contamination whereby other EU countries may follow suit. For example, France may call for a referendum, and have their own FREXIT. Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Italy may follow suit.

Will David Cameron Lose His Job?

David Cameron, UK's current Prime Minister pledged in January 2013 that a referendum to decide if UK remain or leave the EU will be implemented, should the Conservatives wins a parliamentary majority at the 2015 General Election. However, he stood firmly to what he said that he "will campaign with all his heart and soul for Britain to stay in the EU when the referendum comes", having held rallies over the last few weeks to get UK citizens to vote for the stay in EU. He laid his reputation on the line by doing so, hence analysts reported that it will be difficult for him to keep his job for a long term.


Updated: David Cameron announced of his resignation during his post-Brexit poll speech at 10 Downing Street. This is despite that nearly two-thirds of Brexit-backing Tory MPs sent a letter directly to David Cameron to remain in office regardless of the Referendum results. Cameron will step down as Prime Minister by end October 2016, after holding this post for six years. He leaves the invoking of the Article 50 and other agreements and negotiations to the new PM.

For Myself

UK has a special place in my heart. It was in Central London that I spent some of my happiest months of recent years at. Following this Brexit issue for quite some time, I respect what the majority Britons voted for, with the country of split views waking up this morning (24 June 2016) to the decision of the UK withdrawal from the EU. Amidst the current economic and political impacts from the voting results, let's see how UK makes the best out of this double-edged sword event. Nevertheless, I cannot wait to be back in UK - Pounds up or down, Part of EU or not.

What to do in Singapore over this Good Friday long weekend?

Two notable events to go would be the (1) former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station that is opened only on 25 March 2016. Check out the 90s-themed art market organised by The Local People and teamed with the Singapore Land Authority. Take photos standing along or lying down on the railway tracks, or reminisce on the glorious railway station and its fine architectures that was opened in 1932. This station was closed since July 2011... Since then, it was used for private events, as well as for public during certain Public Holiday occasions in Singapore.

(2) i Light Marina Bay festival is coming to an end this coming Sunday (27 March 2016). Started on 04 March 2016, it is Asia's leading sustainable light art festival. Previously held every two years, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has announced in January this year. Have fun taking photos or interacting with the multi-sensory light installations that were designed by international and local artists, illuminating the iconic Marina Bay waterfront.

This year's theme 'In Praise of Shadows' is making a statement to oppose the current obsession that "brighter is better", as said by Mr Randy Chan (co-curator of the festival). This made me think of the photos in Instagram these days that are all whitish, or having its brightness level to be adjusted upwards. In the past recent week or two, some of my photos on my Instagram have been rather 'dark' and 'shadow-playing', and the effect/outcome of them seemed to be well-liked by those who have seen my photos. So there you go, it does not have to be brighter to be better, haha! :p

Since the i Light Marina Bay festival also aims to highlight sustainability issues, allow me to recommend you guys to install energy-saving LED lights. Also, switch off non-essential lights at home when you need not use it. One product that saves energy + reduce electricity bills + create a romantic setting at home is the Philips LivingColors lamp. It uses energy-efficient LED lights yet producing different lighting colors (with adjustable intensities and speeds to boot!). Of course there are other sustainable habits that we can have such as turning up the aircon temperatures as that uses less energy. For myself, I have been keeping my room aircon temperature at 26 degrees. There are so many other ways leading to a more sustainable environment.... Do your part for the future generations! :) 

From London to Singapore

Time flies! It has been awhile since this blog was being updated. Despite that, you would have seen snippets of my life, if you had followed me on my Instagram or Twitter accounts. I had placed a pause to blogging for one main reason - I relocated to London early part of this year.

I made a major decision not to bring my laptop along with me, as I reckoned that I should use whatever free time that I have there to explore London, the neighbouring countries and cities, instead of facing the laptop. You may disagree with me on my decision. But then again, it is my life, my decision. :)


Yes, I could have blogged using my tablet. In fact, I did that once while I was in London, but it proved to be too much of a hassle. I had a Bluetooth keyboard, but no mouse, so it was really tough for me to get used to haha! I could not "copy and paste" my picture links as easily as I can on a laptop. Also, editing and resizing photos was quite troublesome too.

I missed blogging. Sharing my life via my other social media accounts (FB, IG and Twitter) was not enough, but good enough for me to post updates while I was based in UK. If you were to ask me if I had regretted not bringing along my laptop, my reply is "No". I am glad that I used the time that I have them to the best that I could.

Now that I am back in Singapore, I will start to pen blog entries again. Even during the interim, the memories of my time spent overseas has proven to be very difficult to be forgotten or be oblivious to. Evidently, a part of my heart is left in UK. I love London. *happy sigh* As I go about restarting on my blogging journey, I seek your support and patience. I will definitely share my travel stories, and include some tips and recommendations.

Together We Are Stronger. The Pink Way!

There are a lot of sports that require teamwork. For example, dragonboating. Teamwork is about supporting and watching out for each other in the team, as well as being in sync as a team. If one slackens or gives up in his/her rowing, or unable to go with the drum beat, the overall speed and strength will be weakened.

Hence, "Together we are stronger".

This whole thing about teamwork also means a lot to the breast cancer patients out there. With the encouragement and support from their loved ones, patients have the emotional strength to battle it out with this life-threatening disease.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) is an annual event held globally in the month of October. This is when Breast Cancer Awareness campaigns are carried out, as well as to draw attention and raise funds for research and effort work carried out for breast cancer treatment and prevention. You can show your support for this cause by educating your loved ones and friends - Spread the important message on early detection and breast cancer screening, for it can save lives!

Do it for yourself and your loved ones. Bring forth this awareness to even the men in your family, for they are the necessary pillar of support, especially for their female partner/family member who may have been diagnosed with breast cancer. For you see, "Together we are Stronger", and yes, it is the theme for 2014's BCAM! :)

For all that you might have already know, I have been doing the annual "Pink Fridays" routine - Where I wear the Pink Ribbon' and don PINK outfits on every Friday in the month of October!

The pink ribbon is a universal symbol for awareness and hope for breast cancer patients that they can lead normal lives after breast cancer, if detected early. Show your support and awareness by wearing the pink ribbon this month!

Review - Movie Premiere of 'Captain America : The Winter Soldier

A long-time good friend of mine (in the media industry) had tickets for last night's movie premiere screening of the much-awaited Marvel movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And I was one of the lucky ones to have watched it first... Before it starts screening in the cinemas today. Hence, I thought I would share about it with you guys!

 

 I am not exactly a fan of the Marvel comic books, but when it comes to superhero or action flicks, I am all in. As much as the latest sequel to the '300' movie (I was anticipating for it) was simply too disappointing for me after watching it, I was wondering how the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger would fare. And to be honest, I am totally blown away by the movie that it kept me on the edge of my seat (Not literally, of course) for the full 136 minutes!

 

**SPOILERS ALERT**

In this movie plot, Captain America (Steve Roger, played by the dashing-looking Chris Evans) joined S.H.I.E.L.D, and it started off by Captain America jumping down the plane (without parachute, mind you), on a mission along with the other S.H.I.E.L.D members, to successfully rescue hostages onboard a hijacked ship.

Upon knowing that the mission was for another mission (assigned to Black Widow aka Natasha Romanov, played by Scarlett Johansson), he questioned the S.H.I.E.L.D director, Nick Fury, which the latter brought him to view the organisation's work which was in progress at the Triskelion - To launch three mega-sized helicarriers which have an insane weaponry system. Nick explained the purpose of these large ships was to eliminate evil-doers, and potential threats.

Identifying the potential evil-doers were through complex algorithms such as SAT scores, voting choices, etc, as well as from spy satellites. To be honest, this form of 'spying' and analysis is scary, and like what Captain America responded to it, "This isn't freedom - It's fear". Without doubt, such a massive massacre only instils fear in people, and would not bring upon any form of freedom or safety. With such an engaging  real-life political plot infused into the movie, I cannot help but to relate it to socio-political issues that are present in today's world, such as with corrupted government officials, conflicting ideologies, scheming political plots, rebellion and blind obedience.


The appearance of an assassin/villain with an iron arm, the Winter Soldier, who very much possesses comparable strength and speed to Captain America, made the fight scenes to be simply more exciting, or may I say, exhilarating. When it was revealed that the Winter Soldier, was in fact, Bucky, the best pal of Steve Rogers during their good old days, it led to certain scenes which depict the basis of friendship. Steve was thrilled to know his Bucky buddy did not die after falling off the HYDRA train, but was shocked to see him turned into a mercenary assassin who was programmed to kill for the Soviets, and attempted to revive Bucky's memories.

Notable fight scenes were like the fighting scene taking place in the lift, where Steve asked the assassins if 'Anyone wants to get out'. I liked how the close-up of the perspiration flowing down from one of the men's forehead, which is usually associated with anxiousness, stressed or anticipation.

There were scenes whereby the 'TRUST' issue emerged. It simply retaliated that one should trust no one but oneself. Afterall, you won't know someone as much as you know of yourself. The scene in the operations room (when the helicarriers were about to be launched) was a good example of how people around you, that you may have been working or training extensively with, may not be who or what they seemed to be. It also showed the importance of knowing what is RIGHT and making a choice for the good of many and not just for oneself, such as in the scene whereby the guy who was handling the launch system chose not to launch the helicarrier despite having a gun pointing at him.

Chris Evans gave such a nuanced performance for his role as Captain America, and it is sad to know that he may be quitting acting for good after the next sequel in 2017. But of course, with plans to direct movies instead, let us all look forward to future movies directed by Chris Evans, starting off with his directed debut movie - 1:30 Train. In my opinion, this movie appeals to anyone who likes action movies, and not just for the comic fans, like how my good friend is. Hehe!


Anthony Mackie took flight in the Captain America movie as Falcon, equipped with a flight suit which led him to fight against the baddies, alongside Captain America and Black Widow. I believe he will have much of a role to play in the next Captain America movie. And my pal told me that Captain America will eventually 'die' and Winter Solder will take his place, well that is at least, what was in the comics.

I guess I probably gave away too much of the movie storyline, but you have to watch this movie, really. I had no obligation to write this blog post but I knew I just had to. It was simply an amazing movie! Check out the movie trailer below:

Most importantly, remember to stay on for the mid and post credit scenes!!!! Don't rush out of the cinema theatre, no matter how much you need to head to the washrooms after the 2hours+ show!!! LOL! You will get to see "The Twins" - Supposedly Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, whom are twin mutants, kids of Magneto and  Magda. But they not be known as that, or associated with Magneto, as the Avengers is a Marvel comic distributed by Walt Disney and X-men is a Marvel comic, distributed by 20th Century Fox. Unless these two film distribution companies collaborate for a movie or a buy-out (which Ihighly doubt so for both in the near future), we won't get to see Magneto and his twins in the same one movie.

I'm Back. I Said 'Hi' to Meditation.

It has been more than four months since my last blog entry. Reasons for that shall be left to be said another time. However, during this period of time, my life's updates were solely through my various social media accounts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Hence, you would have known bits and pieces of my life if you have 'followed' me on those channels.

Despite the fact that I have stopped posting new entries for the past few months, I am extremely grateful for all the sponsorship and event invitations by various sponsors, direct clients and media agencies during this period of time (No blog posts, but I updated on the events, etc.. Through Instagram, Twitter, nonetheless!). And yes, I am back to develop new blog entries. I hope I will be able to have blog posts which will be of interest to you. But most importantly, I want to blog, so as to share my life, photos and experiences with all of you. But of course, I update snippets of my life in the quickest time through my Instagram, hence do follow me there, yah? :)

Today, I will share with you something that I have been doing since December last year. And that is MEDITATING. Meditation is about being in the Present Moment... To be more aware of the 'Now', and ignoring the 'Past' or 'Future' at that moment. It helped me to live each moment as it unfolds, and to acknowledge all situations and thoughts that come to me, deal with the emotions that follow, and then... Move on.. Let it go. Afterall, "This Too Shall Pass".  

Often, meditation is associated with certain religious or spiritual elements, but not in my case. Since the day that I started meditating, my life took a change and improvements made to my own well-being and personal character were observed not just by myself, but the people close to me. To be honest, I was surprised ('Alarmed' would have been a better word to be honest) by those changes and my own actions!

Additionally, my own personal 'Happiness Index' took a huge jump and I started seeing life in a more positive manner, even when faced with any difficult situations or emotions. Hence, meditation in my case... Is about mindfulness and to access the inner peace within myself. 

And of course, with all common sense, I do not mean that you accept every sh*t that comes along your way. But instead of grumbling or avoiding those problems, you simply acknowledge it, but don't let it grow into you, like a tumour, and have it affect you, your emotions and the people around you.

To conclude this post, I am really glad that I was introduced to meditation, started on it with an open mind, and to have incorporated it into my life. I chanced upon this quote awhile back, and it pretty much sums up what I feel about meditation:

“Generally we waste our lives, distracted from our true selves, in endless activity. Meditation is the way to bring us back to ourselves, where we can really experience and taste our full being.” - Sogyal Rinpoche

Meditation shows you the power of your own mind and gives you effective tools to make your thoughts positive, peaceful and powerful.

Meditation techniques have been practiced in different parts of the world for thousands of years and has thrived because of its effectiveness. Meditation is totally non-religious.

Some of the benefits of meditation include a calm mind, stress-free living, regulated blood pressure, stable emotions, positive thinking, control of anger and freedom from anxiety.

Let's Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2013!

Let's go PINK this October!

Ever since I attended a Breast Cancer Awareness talk which was held in conjunction with a Dell event in 2011, I started wearing pink outfits and to "Wear The Pink Ribbon" on every Friday in the month of October. Apart from that, I also pledged to conduct Breast Self-Examination (BSE) for myself regularly.

For those who do not know, October is the month where Breast Cancer Awareness campaigns are carried out globally, as well as to draw attention and raise funds for research and effort work carried out for breast cancer treatment and prevention.

The Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) in Singapore, a non-profit charity organization is involved in such public awareness, fund-raising activities, and support group for breast cancer. The BCF launches a new design annually for their collar pins, which the funds raised from the sale of these pins contribute towards their funds required for the activities they carried out.

This is the design of their collar pin this year.

For only SGD2, you can get a collar pin and wear it with your outfit. 

And this year, Breadtalk is participating in this campaign...

All you have to do is drop by the nearest Breadtalk outlet, 

drop a $2 note into the collection box, and pick up the collar pin.

For myself, I dropped $20 and get 10 of them!

8 were for my female colleagues in my local office...

 I felt it would be a thoughtful gift for them 

(not sure if they feel this way! :p).

Afterall, this pin looks nice to wear it.

And it was my own way to raise awareness for breast cancer.

The remaining 2 were for my dear sister and myself.
My Sis knows that I wear pink outfits and the collar pink on Fridays in October. 
And I was so happy that she supported my support to this cause by doing so too!
We met on Friday for shopping after work.
Seeing her dressed in pink and with the pin totally made my day!

Thus, why not get a collar pin for your colleagues, 

close female friends, or your mum or sister? :)

Apart from "Wearing the Pink Ribbon" on October's Fridays...

I have done a gelish nail art design of the pink ribbon!

In this way, I am somewhat wearing the pink ribbon every day! ;)

At first, I asked for the nail art cost, but when I was making my payment, my manicurist told me it's complimentary. What a nice gesture! I guess that's her own way of supporting the cause too! ;)

 On instagram, there is a hashtag in conjunction with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign. Ladies around the world hashtag #polishuspink for the Instagram photos of their pink-colored nails or designs related to the Pink Ribbon which they have posted up. And yes, me too. Thus, get all PINK this October, ladies!!!

Singapore. National Day Parade (NDP) 2013. Fireworks!

Happy (belated) 48th Birthday, Singapore!

48 years old this year, yet a young nation indeed. You came so far from a small fishing village and progressed to this unique metropolitan city which I call HOME. We try to live in harmony and understand the festivals and practices of the various races and religions of the people dwelling in this urban city. On top of that, we see immigrants from other countries coming into Singapore to build their homes here, to seek for jobs that pay better than what they can get back home, or to seek a brighter future for themselves and/or their offspring. We too, try to live cohesively with this other group of people, but sometimes it simply irks us (or me, at least), when they lack the mannerism or consideration for others (or the cleanliness, per se). 

But no matter what, this is my HOME. Even if I will not be living in Singapore for my whole life, this is where I grew up, did my studies, and started my first job at. I love the fact that food choices are aplenty here, anytime of the day or night, and they range from fine dining restaurants to hawker centres, as well as from Chinese cuisine to say, Russian cuisine. 

I love how my Singapore passport allows me to travel visa-free to more than 160 countries in the world, for XX days! We are just a small red dot but we have bilateral agreements with so many countries around the world! To be honest, I treasure my citizenship. Despite singing the praises of what this country can provide me with, I also have my own views of the political parties, which I shall not touch here. But for each GE to come, it will be very obvious of which party I support, through all the tweets where I voice my opinions. True to be told, we aren't like the older generation whereby we only listen to one voice. The younger generation of today have our own views and a clearer mind. We won't be oppressed, we will make an informed choice.

Despite the breakdowns of our buses and trains, I dare say we have a commendable transport infrastructure (unlike some cities) that connects us to most parts of Singapore. Then again, I take public buses or trains only once in a blue moon. And sadly, I have to deal with the 'kiasuism' or inconsideration of commuters each time, which completely irks me. Of course, there are some commuters who brought much amusement to us such as the dancing dude or the vulgarities-sprouting lady ,as you can see in the videos below. :p

Not forgetting our unique Singlish language! Or the fact that we can mix English, Mandarin and even Hokkien into one sentence! But do note that we are capable of speaking proper English too - It all depends on where, when and to whom. Thus, relac ah! ;)

I have been using DHC Mild Touch Cleansing Oil, and I am currently into my 2nd bottle. I use this on my medium to heavy makeup days. On my light-makeup days, I use the Biore Cleansing Oil-In Cotton sheets. I liked the fact that I can use this cleansing oil with wet hands. Usually, for most cleansing oils, it is a must to use on dry hands only. It is amazing how this cleansing oil removes all the makeup so thoroughly!
