Luxurious Stay at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel (Part of AccorHotels Group)

After a day of non-stop shopping and feasting in Bangkok, nothing beats returning to a luxurious hotel for a good rest and a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. Located in the heart of Bangkok, surrounded by shopping complexes (5-minutes walk to Terminal 21 shopping mall!) and nearby BTS and MRT stations, the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel redefines the travel experience with French elegance, opulent interiors and high service standards.

Upon arriving at the hotel, the doorman was quick to help offload my luggage from the vehicle, and showed me to the main entrance with a very welcoming smile. Walking though the main lobby to the front desk area, I noticed the grand and exquisite lobby decor and furnishing.

1. UPON ARRIVAL
After completing the necessary registration at the front desk, a staff served us with a welcome drink and a cold towel. This was certainly a thoughtful gesture for guests whom have just arrived from outside, from the unforgivable heat of Bangkok. Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel serves different drinks for each day. As I arrived on Saturday, I was served a brilliant concoction of a mix of lavender syrup and fresh lime juice, which I totally enjoyed.

2. STAY
The hotel has 345 rooms and suites to cater to their guests. I stayed at the Luxury Room, which was designed in neutral tones and dark earthy timbers, with a remarkable fusion of French and Thai design. Upon entering the room, walk along the long corridor into the living area towards the large windows to get a bird's eye view of Bangkok city.

With all the walking and shopping during the day, I took delight of having two lovely nights of rest on the Sofitel’s blissful 'MyBed™'. I was perfectly fine with the pillows that were already provided... But for those with interesting needs, you can choose from the hotel's personal pillow menu.

When it comes to technology and in-room entertainment, Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel offers complimentary high-speed Internet and WIFI for their guests. I noticed the international plug sockets at the working desk area... And this is something which I get (easily) joyful about. Some hotels that I previously stayed at, had their power sockets with the USB port options, which is totally fabulous in my opinion. I know there is something called a travel power adapter, but small features/touches such as these are what (most) travellers will be impressed/thankful of.

With such a comfortable bed to laze on, I could not help but to binge-watch international TV programmes from the Smart LED television. And when I was in the mood for some music, the BOSE wave music system and the iPod docking station/player was the answer to get into the groove.

There was complimentary coffee and tea facilities. But take note of the chargeable minibar if that may be a concern to you. In the wardrobe were the bathrobes, ironing board and iron, shoe polish/laundry bags, room slippers, and of course, the electronic safe.

I have this thing for marble tiles and marble tops in bathrooms, as it makes the place look and feel grander. Hence, I was pleased with the bathroom, which consisted of a wash basin area, large bath tub, toilet and standing shower area. There was even the ceiling speaker which projected the sound from the TV, so you are able to watch TV while soaking in your bubble bath through the transparent glass window. As a fan of French-brand L'Occitane products, it was fantastic for the fact that the toiletries were of this brand. With a hotel room and bathroom of such, awesome is an understated word if you were to ask me to describe the superb SOFITEL experience.

3. THINGS TO DO IN THE HOTEL

(a) SPA
The hotel spa is the Le SPA L'Occitane, and as mentioned being a huge fan of the brand, I could not say no to a massage session at one of the global Spa L'Occitane branches! Similar to the hotel room decor, this spa boasts the Thai massage style but combines it with French touches such as the use of L'Occitane products for the rejuvenating signature treatments.

One interesting aspect was that I could choose my room's aroma and music, haha! I know Bangkok is the land of massage where you can probably get a full-body Thai massage at 200~400 baht, but trust me when I said the 2000 baht (or thereabout) for a Thai massage session here is extremely worth it for the experience, ambience and service!

(b) GYM (24-hours!)

(c) SWIM

Located on the 9th floor (same level as the spa), are the swimming pool and jacuzzi for hotel guests. Decorated in a modern style with lush greenery around, guests get to enjoy panoramic views here. There were sundeckers and pavilions if one fancies chilling by the pool, before or after a swim.

(d) WINE & DINE

With a total of four F&B establishments in the hotel itself, foodies will be spoilt for choices! Just on the ground level itself, there is the Le Macaron, which is a bakery serving all sorts of French bakes (such as crossiants, macarons and cakes), and the hotel bar.

If rooftop restaurant and bar is your cup of tea (or glass of wine, for the matter), catch the sunset with a fantastic 360-degree view of Bangkok at L'Appart, followed by dinner. The restaurant serves French-inspired food prepared by French-national, Jerome Deconinck, the chef whom has worked alongside Michelin-star chefs. I did not eat there as there was a formal dress code, and I did not bring along any cocktail dress, or at least my pair of heels, during the trip. Otherwise, I would have liked to try the French cuisine prepared by the kitchen that is headed by a talented and experience chef. Maybe next time!~ :)

Anyway, the second-level Voila! restaurant, is where the daily breakfast, Seafood buffet and Sunday brunch buffet are served. For an extra premium price, diners can get to enjoy Veuve Clicquot Champagne, wines and cocktails for their Sunday brunch at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel. There is even a DJ on-site who played cool chillout tunes.

They say food is a form of art, which involves the 5 senses, which I fully agree. Having a breakfast/brunch here is like entering into a food exhibition - What caught my eye was the effort to details in terms of the display accessories, dishes and plates used, and even how they design the food! In addition, there were live cooking stations where the kitchen staff prepare the food of your choice for you.

I was like a young girl going around marvelling at the food display like as if I was in a candy store. I took interest in the way that I had to extract my honey, straight out from a honeycomb! And that was my first time that I have ever done so. Have you done this before? I certainly recommend the fresh fruit juices served here. There are some unique flavors that were very tasty!

Sofitel shows that they are serious to offer guests the experience of the French  “art de vivre” (art of living), even to the point of not only having L'Occitane toiletries (and French-brand Hermes toiletries for the suit rooms)...  But even to use the French-brand Le Creuset cast iron pots and pans (instead of the usual metal buffet-like trays) to serve the food. My dream is to own a good range of kitchenware from Le Creuset one day!

So this was part of what I had for breakfast.
Super proud of the honey which I extracted myself hahaaha!

So if being at Voila! feels like walking around a candy store, wait till you see the DESSERT SPREAD for the Sunday brunch buffet. I felt I was in a CANDYLAND!!! The desserts looked so gorgeous that I was gushing over them. Even one of the staff could not resist snapping photos via her phone camera.

Every aspect of the hotel - From the front desk, doormen, concierge, spa staff, restaurant/pool staff, facilities, decor and food were of a high standard. It felt like a mini sanctuary to be staying in Bangkok. I had stayed in another Accor-branded hotel in Bangkok previously, and it was as fascinating as this, and given that it was part of the M Gallery by Sofitel, it had to be great, right? Right!

The macarons were my favorite of the whole array of desserts. So, I will end my blogpost with photos of the macarons, while I continue in my dreamland and food coma combined in one... All thanks to Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel! Hehe~ :)
